PHYSICAL THERAPY MODEMS 6

Below, as I stated in PTM5, are more possible exercise machines that people
with some use of their lower extremities can use. The person can be assisted
on to some of these machines. As with the other machines you can begin at 20 pounds.
The young ladies in this picture, on the left, are demonstrating a Quad Kick Pulley. One ankle has an ankle brace connected to pulleys. As the name suggests, they are developing their front leg, or quadriceps, muscles. They are holding on to the bar and they can start with the strapped foot in front of the others and work the pulley as far as they can up to their sides. To view, go to

When the person has gained enough confidence and leg strength, he may want to try modified versions of a squat machine. Here are two versions--the one on the left simulates coming to full height; the second enables the person to develop his legs while in a seated position but pushing off his legs (not pushing a weight). They are the LEG PRESS and the SEATED LEG PRESS respectively. When the person feels the need to stop, he uses a handle on his right to stop the apparatus without having to go all the way down to get off.
For more adventurous souls, the above machines may be quite appealing. These machines give a person the option of just doing calf raises or seeing how far down in a squat position he will allow himself to go. They are  SQUAT/CALF RAISE COMBO and CALF/SQUAT. Again, the person can begin with 20 pounds.
The two simplest and basic leg exercises are the leg extension and the hamstring isolator. With the LEG EXTENSION the young lady is seated with a back and straigthtens, or extends her legs to develop her quadricep (front leg) muscles.

The young lady uses a similar machine the
HAMSTRING ISOLATOR to  curl her legs backward to develop her hamstring (back leg) muscles.
The young lady in the
above picture is using a
CALF SEATED machine
to develop her calf muscles.
She is raising her heels to
lift the cushion on her
knees
