West Side Lumber Shay
Lionel Part # 6-28022
The West Side Lumber Company, founded in 1898 by William H. Crocker was instrumental in providing lumber for the developing western frontier. Located in present day Tuolumne, California, West Side Lumber's original purpose was to transport tourists to nearby Yosemite National Park. The vast resource of Ponderosa and Sugar Pine in the area ensured, however, that few passengers ever road the West Side Lumber rails. With over 4 Billion board feet of timber to harvest, West Side became an important supplier of lumber for a growing nation.
The workhorse of the West Side Lumber fleet of locomotives was the Lima Shay. Utilizing a unique drive system of vertical pistons, gears and universal joints, the Shay could handle the tight turns and steep grades of the Sierra foothills. Lionels reproduction of West Side Lumber Shay #7 is a must addition to your railroad empire.
