| The media today poorly represents the growing population of overweight people. I hate watching music videos and television shows, mainly because there are only "beautiful people" on them. MTV's "Real World," a so-called "reality" show with "seven strangers picked to live in a house to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real," is a prime example of how the media only illustrates beautiful people. MTV proclaims its show to be comparable to the "real world," yet all they allow on their show are size 00 women and attractive men. They fail to realize that approximately 64.5% of U.S. adults, ages 20 and older, are overweight, and therefore MTV misrepresents the "real world." It is true that they may have different races, cultures, social backgrounds, and sexual preferences, but do they have fat, unattractive people? No. |
