| Physical Abuse~ Physical abuse is "the non accidental use of physical force that results in the injury of another". It can be holding someone down, pinching, punching, biting, pulling hair, grabbing too tightly, jerking, tugging, pulling, pushing, poking, thumping, slapping, tripping, hitting with objects, burning, squeezing, sitting on, choking, and many others. Physical abuse is also when one person uses physical force against another's property to inflict pain or other types of injury to another's life. A person may, for example, use physical force to break something you love to hurt you. Physical abuse is not limited to visual marks left on a victim, but unfortunately it is often evaluated by that standard in order to determine punishment. It is unwanted or innapropriate touching, fondling, genital exposure and exhibition, innapropriate or unwanted kissing or hugging, sexual gestures, sexual or obscene language or jokes, displaying sexually explicit pictures or written material, forcible and statutory rape, sexual intercourse, oral sex, sexual assault, and commercial exploitation for purposes of pornography, pedophilia, and incest. Also included are any acts or actions that are sufficiently sever or pervasive to create a sexually objectionable enviroment. Social Abuse~ Social abuse is "not allowing or preventing another to exercise their right to function as an active member and/or have relationships within society". The most common form of social abuse is isolation. Social abuse is when someone prevents or does not allow another to go to school, go to work, go to friend's homes, go to family's home, talk or write letters to friends and family, join groups or organizations, use the phone, have guests in the home, to vote, to go to places alone, to go places they want to go. Social abuse is also embarrassing, degrading, shouting at, ignoring, or otherwise treating someone with disrespect within society. Verbal abuse often accompanies social abuse. The affect of social abuse leaves the victim without ties to the community which prevents the victim from getting help and causes them to feel alone. Emotional Abuse~ Emotional Abuse is "any non accidental use of physical force or acts, verbalization, or exposure that results in the emotional disturbance of another". Emotional abuse can be displayed in many forms. The breaking of a person's belongings, taking away of belongings, selling one's belongings, threats, hurtful comments, constant criticism, comparison of one to another, degrading comments about someone close to another, and behavior that embarrases. Excesive calls to one's work, jealous comments or threats, withholding of praise or other positive comments are a few more examples. Emotional abuse is actions that are knowingly done to emotionally damage another.. Financial Abuse~ Financial abuse is "inappropriate (whether legal or illegal) use of another person's money or property." The attempting to, or actually persuading, tricking or threatening a person to part with money, property, or possesions. Attempting to influence or influencing this person to change their will. Cashing their checks or misspending money they are intrusted to use for another. Financial abuse can also be when one person chooses to work in society to support their family and then refuses to meet the needs of the family. Children and seniors are often victims of financial abuse because they are not able to contol their own finances or sometimes even understand what should be provided for them. |
