| This one was inspired by an article on my friend Jenn's site witch was in turn inspired by the movie The Matrix. What is real? How do we define reality? Most people define reality by what we can see, smell, feel, tast or hear. The question is, how do we know that those senses are real? Do microscopic organisims know that we exist? Probably not. So isn't it entirely possible that there is another level beyond our comprehension creating this world that we call reality? For all we know we could be some omnipotent beings science fair project. And then we come to one of my favorite quotes of all time: I think therefore I am. So, because we can think for ourselves we are real. I may be real but is there any way to know that you are real? No, there isn't, I can't read your thoughts. If we can create computers that think ( and they don't know that we exist ) then couldn't someone that has enough power to hid themselves from us create us? That just raises the question of whether or not a reality created in another reality is real. I think that it would be normaly but what if that higher reality was also created by a yet higher level? To conclude this I am simply going to say that there is absolutely no way to know if anything around you, or even yourself, is real. However if we are not real there is absoluety nothing that we can do about it so I say let the fair go on and see if we get the blue ribbon. |
