No, not Personal Computer ( as some of my friends thought I meant ). By PC I mean Political Correctness. The curse of the modern world. I'm not saying that everyone should go around insulting each other freely. But more freedom is required. I imagine everyone has been touched by this curse at one time or another. Who hasn't felt even slightly guilty about telling or laughing at a blond joke? Or newfie jokes, anything like that? Who hasn't had to rephrase something they were going to say or write to avoid insulting someone?
Just take our national anthem for example. One line is 'Our home and native land'. When you think about it, it doesn't take much thought to realize that most 'Canadian' families did not originate in Canada. So some people wanted the anthem reworded to 'Our home
on native land.' How stupid is that? How about we take that one step further. If you go back far enough every family originated from a protective valley in northern Africa. So should we change it to 'Our home that has been occupied by various different ethnic groups throughout history.'? When we do someone can shoot me.
People today are way to easily offended. A joke is a joke. And people are entitled to their opinions. Let's say I'm a big politician. And this is my personal website were write down my political views and basically sell myself, as all politicians do. Now let's say I made a sexist joke. Say I was talking about traffic problems and jokingly I said that women should be allowed to drive because they can't parallel park anyway. In today's society that's called career suicide. Why? Anyone with half a brain knows that there's no way that could possibly be true. And even if that's truly what I think most people should be civilized enough to accept my opinion and ignore my utter stupidity.
Common sense will be the savior of mankind. Once we get some. Quote that if you want because I'm not changing it. Even if some fool comes and points out that I've just insulted the entire human race. And he decides to take it personally.
