The Zegil Family

What a Typical Family Size:  Olive (Mike's Mom), Mike, Kim (Mike's Big Sister), and Ron (Mike's Dad).

Mike�s family is fairly average.  His Dad, Ron, is a retired human resource manager.  His Mom, Olive, is a semi-retired receptionist.  Both are in their fifties, so that makes Mike the son of boomers.  No surprise.

And just like a large portion of the population in Canada, Mike�s parents are divorced.  In 1997, the divorce rate in Canada was 45% of the marriage rate.

Ron Zegil lives in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Olive Zegil lives in Ottawa, but she�s originally from Minnedosa, Manitoba.  As a result, Mike has family spread over a few provinces, not unlike a lot of Canadians.

The average number of children in a Canadian family is between two and three.  Mike�s parent�s got as close as they could.  In addition to Mike, they had Kim, Mike�s big sister.  She�s a social worker who opted out of her chosen field to manage a women�s clothing store in Belleville, Ontario.  Human Resources Development Canada says that most people today will have more than one career.

Ron Zegil was a Radio DJ for CBC Northern Service.  He met Olive in the Canadian North, where she was also working.  The family moved around quite a bit, mostly in the good ol� Canadian North.  Though many Canadians haven�t visited the North, it�s definitely a part of the Canadian image.

When Mike was about 7 years old, Ron Zegil found a position in Ottawa as a Personnel Manager.  They purchased a home in Nepean, just outside of Ottawa.

When it came time for Mike to go to University, he figured he�d go to Laurentian in Sudbury, just so he�d have a reason to rent his own apartment.  Like most Canadian kids, Mike wanted his own place.
