The Columbus AFB SUPT Class 00-11 started on our journey to the silver wings of an Air Force Pilot 21 June 1999. On that day we started our first phase of the year long school leading to Air Force pilot wings. Class 00-11 started Phase II (T-37 phase) on 26 July 99. We started phase III on 14 Dec 99 and we will earned our wings on 30 June 2000. On this web site you will find a class roster with the names of all students in class 00-11 and their assignments. You will also find several pictures of the class members earning our wings or just having fun.
For those of you not familiar with Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) here is a quick overview. SUPT is divided up into three phases. Phase I covers academics such as T-37 systems, aviation fundamentals, aviation physiology, weather, etc. Phase II covers our primary aircraft training the T-37. The T-37 is a twin turbojet engine trainer currently used to teach all Air Force pilots how to fly. During Phase II we learned about basic aircraft control, traffic pattern procedures, emergency procedures, instrument flying as well as aerobatic and formation flying. After completion of Phase II we "track selected" to determine what aircraft we would fly in Phase III and what type of aircraft we would fly in the Air Force.
Those of us that were selected to fly fighters flew the T-38 in phase III here at Columbus AFB. The tanker, transport, and bomber types headed off to the T-1 also here at Columbus AFB. The individuals chosen to fly helicopters or C-130's after SUPT left Columbus AFB for phase III to fly the UH-1 or T-44, respectively.
