Game night once again, with special guests Kaveh, Anne, and Howard (who just watched the Tour de France). Jamie was kind enough to bring a watermelon. In fact, Kaveh answered the door, and found this eerie sight awaiting him:

Notes: We played a quick game of Kingdoms to get the night started, as Karla cleaned the fish tank. Annie fell way behind at the outset, but made a late charge to respectability, as Dan and I only had castles of sizes 1 and 2, while Annie still had a 3 and a 4.

It was kind of an odd game, as Dan noted, as the negative pieces tended not to show up until late in each round (except the third).

Notes: We started this game with the hopes of finishing it quickly if anyone showed up, but several distractions and inefficient play made it take a little too long. The scores are somewhat misleading. Although I was only 7 points out of 2nd place, I felt like I was at a disadvantage all game. I never made any 5 or 6 piece connections, and my tickets, though good and complete, were no better than anyone else's.

Annie kept taking the cards Dan wanted, and about 3/4 of the way through the game she stopped collecting tickets and just made 5 & 6 train connections. I thought it a good strategy, but it didn't quite work. Karla had made some excellent connections and made some great tickets work, and before we checked for longest route, Karla was leading 122-120. The longest route was between Karla and Annie, and I believe Karla won by one (1) car. Nice job, Karla!

Notes: With 7 of us ready to play (Howard was determined to read or watch Lance Armstrong), everyone refused to split up into two groups, which would have resulted in two manageable games. Of my other games that accomodate 7 players, 6 Nimmt! was packed away, BANG! was brushed aside, Citadels takes too long (I hate waiting for people to look over the roles forever), and Killer Bunnies is painful. Thus, it was with a grumpy heart that I sat down to play Richard Dawson.

The Scheebiests won the first two rounds pretty easily, but then the Munstrels made a nice steal in the 3rd round and when the Scheebiests passed on the 4th round (despite winning the showdown), the Munstrels managed to get all 5 answers.

They didn't win the Fast Money, though. Jamie netted about 114 in the first half, but Karla only managed 66 in the second.

Notes: To wrap up the night, we managed to squeak in a quick game of Apples to Apples, just for the heck of it. Kaveh made some hilarious plays, and said, "I'm doing this for your benefit." It was feast or famine tonight, as each judge either had a lot of good cards to pick from, or a lot of bad ones. Karla smoked us in about 15 minutes.
