Just another game night. Karla, Scott, and Dan attended. We got off to a late start because Karla and I had a late dinner.

Notes: Karla actually had to take two guys off the boat near the end to get some cards because she was out and her only people were at the beginning. I ran out of cards, but had 1 guy 1 space from the end. Scott had 2 guys on the last space. It was pretty close, and I could feel that Scott, Dan, or I could have won at any point down the stretch. Cute, rather light game.

Notes: It had been FAR too long since the last time we pulled out this masterpiece, and it was incredibly enjoyable. Karla played pretty well given her somewhat cavalier attitude to listening to the rules, but Scott didn't quite get it, and needed a couple nudges around mid-game to keep him around. Karla turned a lot of her Florins into points, and she ran a bit low in the late rounds, as did Scott. Dan and I worked a nice balance of florins and prestige points.

In the last round, Dan built a 21 point work, taking the 10 prestige points. I was down by 16, and knew I could win so long as I stayed within 15 points, because I had two good prestige cards and Dan had none. It looked like he might get the best work, so I needed 5 points to clinch victory, and 3 to stay in contention. Of course, I could just build a building, which gives 3 points, but I couldn't fit ANY building (not even the Chapel) in my piazza ANYwhere. And I was 4 points shy of creating my last work (I needed a minimum of 17 points and all I could muster was 13).

It looked grim, but I tried for a Bonus Card anyway. The first 4 would only net me 3 points at best, and I thought that was all the cards, but lo and behold, a 4 point card appeared and I built the work and took the points to draw within 6 of Dan, clinching the victory. Scott ended up building the best work (I thought he might, as he had a ton of Profession Cards and a Bonus Card on top of that), taking 3 points from Dan and making the game look much less tight than it really was. I should add that Karla put a great run at the end by making a mad dash, and if Scott hadn't built an extra building in that last turn AND I didn't draw my Bonus card, she would have won the game by 1 or 2 points over Dan.
