| cont.. Michael`s accident was not far from a fire station, so these were the first on the scene. He was asking for his mum, but they could not make any sense of what he was saying. He was taken to hospital and I was told later that al he lept saying was "I want my mum" My sister phoned me back, she had got through to the hospital and yes they did have a lad fitting \mike`s description. She came and picked me up and we went straight to the hospial, with my mum, dad and neice Lisa. My dad went to find Pat (his dad) as we couldn`t get him on his mobile, and my neice went to collect my daughter Katie. After what seemed ages they finally let me see him. He looked fine, but they told me they had to comatose him because of his injuries. I thought it was just a precaution because he had hit his head. At this time I was not aware his helmet had come off, he never had a mrk on him, so I thought everything was fine. They transferred him to the I.C.Unit in the Neuro department, but again I thought it was just a precaution and he would be home the next day!!! The doctors tried to talk to me and explain, but I wassn`t listening, all I could think of was Michael. His sister Katie had been in hospital many times before but this was the first time Mike had ever been in hospital, T]typical of him to make an issue of it , I thought, always had to go one better. After about three days of Mike`s brain pressure going up and dangerously high, he had to have an operation, he had already had one to remove a blood clot. When they took him to theatre, they decided not to operate, again I thought this was good news, he does not need it. But the consultant came and saw us, he told us the devastating news. Mike was not going to get better anfd thing weren`t looking to good. We were told to prepare ourselves for the worse.!!!! After ten days Mike was declared brain dead and we took the decision to donate his organs.!!!!! As for the driver..;he was 65 and had already been done for jumping a red light !!! He was in a workd van, so did not even loose his claim on his insurance. When we went to court, the prosecution had lost their notes!!! so they did a deal with his solicitor to read his. They went easy on him because of his age!!!!They said if he was banned from driving he would loose his job. He got six months ban and a thousand pounds fine to pay at his conveniwence. His firm gave him a job in the office until his ban was lifed!!!! As for us.........We lost our precious SON, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend and friend. Our lives will never be the same again.............. HE NOT ONLY KILLED OUR SON HE KILLED US TOO......... |
