Driving Around Orlando
If you are traveling with children aged 5 and under you are required by Florida state law to have an approved restraint device , children aged three and under must have a separate carrier fitted to the hire car.

Seabelts like the UK must be worn by all front seat passengers.

Always keep to the Speed limit, this is normally between 40 - 65 miles per hour, however  some roads in built up or residential areas such as Vista Del Lago the limit can be as low as 20 miles per hour.

The Police have the right, and can issue drivers with on-the-spot fines if they are caught breaking these speed limits, these fines can be well over $100.00, if you are caught, and, are issued with a fine  do not make the mistake of leaving the USA without paying, your hire company will provide your home details to the police, and can be re-issued to you by the UK police with any extra costs added, also this non-payment could result in you being refused re-entry to the USA on a future arrival at pasport control.

The Law for drink driving in the USA is the same as that of the UK, if you are caught you will be banned from driving  and the bann will be valid in the UK, DO NOT DO IT

Whilst driving across road juctions you will notice that traffic signals are hung across the road on wires, and not on posts at the side of the road, you will also notice the name of a road, this is the name of the road you are crossing not the name of the road you are on.

you will notice at some traffic signals  a small sign that states "no turn on red" this is because if you come to a red traffic light and you are turning right, you have the right to proceed through the light to turn, that is  provided the road is clear and, or, there are no signs that state "no turn on red"

At many road juctions especially those on the Vista Del Lago complex you will notice a "STOP" sign, it is essential that you bring you car to a complete stop at each stop sign before you continue to drive past

The Police do monitor these juctions on a regual basis, and they can and do issue drivers with on-the-spot fines if they are caught driving past any of the signs without stopping.

The general rule at cross roads with 4 stops signs is that the first car to approach the cross roads will have the right to cross or turn, other cars must give way.

Many of Orlando's highways such as the "Beeline Expressway" are "Toll Roads", every few miles you will have to pay a "Toll" if you wish to contiue to use the road, These toll's can range from 50 cents to $1.50 or more, a tirp to Space Kennedy will cost aprox $7.50 in toll charges.

When using these roads
DO NOT use the "EXPRESS" booths found on the left hand side of the road, these are reserved for fast moving trucks who pay a fixed price per year, they have an electronic pass sensor and do not have to stop at the booth,  stopping in these booths to pay a toll could result in an accident

Although the booths are manned and  will accept dollar bills, and give change you will find that most of them will allow you to throw the correct coins into a bucket type money collecting device found outside each booth this checks the coins you have thrown into the bucket and lifts the barrier or gives you a green light to proceed, take note as you leave the booth area the road will reduce back to four or five lanes so do take care once you have left the area
