ON DEATH and DYING
Unlike those who have a professed
belief or faith in an afterlife,
I have to state simply that
I
do not know what happens when
we die.
For myself, this is an OK state
of affairs.
Either I will cease to exist
completely, in which case the
question
is irrevelant, or I will find
out
when my own time comes to depart
from this particular body. To
some
this is an indication that I
will
go straight to Hell for my lack
of faith or
(to them) my defiance to accept
their particular brand of religious
faith.
If they are correct, then I
will certainly
reap the consequences of my
incorrect thinking. If they
are correct,
then I hope that they enjoy
all
of the benefits of going to
that
wonderful paradise that they
claim will
be their eternal reward for
their beliefs.
If they are wrong, then I still
wish them well. I suspect
that there
is "something" after death,
but
so far, no-one has been able
to demonstrate anything that
convinces
me that their particular belief
about it is true.
To those who find it comforting
that
their loved ones have "gone
on to
a better place", I would not
wish
to challenge them in their grief.
If
this helps them, then I don't
see how
this could truly be a bad thing
even
if it may be delusional or simply
mistaken.
The one known true fact is
that ALL of us will someday
die.
How we choose to live our lives
may depend on our belief systems
around the fact of death.
When my own time comes, I hope
that this
grand adventure continues in
some form.
Existence may at times be
frustrating but it is rarely
boring.
The End
or
Maybe...?
