 Children's games can sometimes 
be fun for adults too...

The follwing games were suggested by:

SPINNING THE
WITCHES SAUCEPAN:

Seat each player in a circle around one called "IT" 
(not Cousin It I presume) 
Give each guest a piece of paper with the name
of some creepy thing. eg: bat, snake,
frog, eel, worm, skeleton etc. 
"IT" has a ordinary plate. 
As he/she spins it, he says 
I'm making a very powerful potion and I'm
going to put in some "BAT" (or one of the others)
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.
If "Bat" (the person with the paper with 
the word Bat written on it) jumps
up and grabs the plate before the count 
of 10 is reached, he/she takes the
witches place. 
The game continues as long as intrest is shown.




TOMBSTONE CHORUS:

Each guest is given a slip of paper 
with a single vowel (a, e, i, o, u)
written on it  to play this game. 
When the slips are given out, the guests
search for others with slips 
the same as theirs.  They gather into groups,
and a "master of ceremonies" 
directs them in singing their respective vowels.
Hilarious results.




BEETLE (COOTIE):

Here's a quieter game of luck and speed -
not a test of your artistic
ability!  The guests play in twos - 
use a die (dice),a pencil, a sheet of
paper marked out in squares 
with one side a pictures of a beetle and a
"key" to his anatomy.  One rolls the die
and the other does the drawing,
but not until the "1" turns up. 
When the "1" does turn up, the body is
drawn, "2" lets them add the head;
"3" the eyes one at a time; "4" the
tail; "5" any one of the four feelers; 
"6" any of his eight legs.  Of
course only one square at a time is worked. 
Work as quickly as possible,
for as soon as the drawing is complete, 
the lucky one calls "Beetle" and
everyone stops.  Count one for each body, head, 
eyes and appendages.  Total
score is seventeen, but few will make it.
Play six rounds then rotate.  Prizes may be given.




GOSSIP
HALLOWEEN STYLE:

The players sit in a circle and a sentence
is whispered by the first
player to the next, and so on around the circle.
 The last person repeats it
aloud.  The first person gives the sentence
as he/she first started it -
could be interesting for others 
to tell what they heard as it came to them!

Ideas: 
1/ The Boogieman has 6 long pointed teeth
in his mouth to eat boys and girls.

2/ They found his body in a graveyard 
with all the guts hanging out 
(older kids only)

3/ The martians are coming tonight 
and are staying at my place.

4/ There are weird scary sounds of banging
in the Haunted House on Halloween.




SNAKE EATING 
CONTEST:

Have partners matched and facing each other. 
Give each pair a long black
licorce whip.  Each of the pair puts one end 
of the licorce whip in her/his
mouth and stands with their hands behind their backs. 
At given siginals
they eat the licorce whip towards their partners
and the pair finishing first are the champions.




ABRACADABRA:

Cut a melodramatic storys into paragraphs.
 Mix them up and pass them around to guests. 
The leader designates the person
to begin reading aloud.
 As soon as he/she finishes his/her paragraph,
the person on the left
begins reading his/her paragraph. 
This continues around the circle, with
no pauses in the reading. 
The more feeling that the guest put into their
reading the funnier it is, 
mixed though the paragraphs be.




BLACK MAGIC:

This is a good group game - 
rehearse it with your friend
before the others arrive.  You announce to the crowd
that your Friend is possessed by the devil 
and has strange powers. 
To prove it, you send Friend out of the room
and ask the rest of the crowd
to decide upon one object.
They choose, for example, Alice's Barrette.
 You then call in Friend and
say "Oh Magical One, 
show us you conjuring powers!"
 Friend looks mysterious, and if properly dramatic, 
goes into a spell.  You point to
various objects asking "Is it this picture?" 
"It is the wart on Johnny's nose?" 
But, directly  before you name the correct object,
you point to something BLACK, 
and ask if that's it.  Friend will say no, but now you
have cued him that the next object 
you point to will be "IT"  Everyone is astounded, 
when he/she guesses correctly. 
After a few rounds, someone will
think they know the answer. 
so let the challenger take Friends place.
Chances are he/she will be wrong, 
so you and your friend will have another
demonstration. 
More fun, change the colour cue! 
A black kettle of black
candy  to anyone who figures it out!




HI, WITCH!

A circle is formed with everyone standing in it.
 One is chosen as "IT".
"IT", stands in the circle 
and tells the rest of the players 
what to do and performs the actions himself/herself. 
Each time he says "Hi, Witch, nod your heads" 
or "Hi Witch smile", etc. 
the rest of the players follow suit.
Suddenly he/she points to one of the players, 
saying "Hi Witch, whistle".
If the startled guest fails to whistle before "IT"
counts to 10, the guest becomes the next "IT"


PIN THE TAIL ON THE BLACK CAT, 
OR A WITCH ON A BROOM 
OR A STEM ON A PUMPKIN.

MURDER 
SHE SCREAMED:

Have a slip or blank paper for each guest. 
On one slip write "Murderer"
and on another "Detective". 
Each guest draws a slip 
but keeps its content secret. 
Clear the room of any breakables!
 Turn out the lights.  In the darkness,
the "murderer" 
takes the victim by the throat.  After the
"victim" screams the "detective" counts 
to 10 and turns on the lights (or you can!) 
No one moves after the lights go on. 
The detective may ask questions
of anyone but the victim, 
of course!  He may ask any 
question except, 
Did you commit the murder?" 
Everyone but the murderer must tell
the truth - he may lie his head off to save it.
 Set a time limit for the investigation. 
If the "detective" doesn't solve
the murder with three
guesses, the murderer confesses. 

Paint a new small clay flower pot
with a face and fill with candy or do a
larger one and fill 
with coloured popcorn balls.

Set a table with small paper bags,
crayons, coloured pencils, washable
children's glue, small scissors,
fake small plastic spiders and other
delights and let the kids design there own 
take away treat bag in a
Halloween theme.
