##################
## INSTALLATION ##
##################

Copy the file golvlius.86g to your calculator. The game is quite large (even in demo form) so make sure you have plenty of free RAM. Using the "Asm(" command or a shell, run the program "Golvellius - Demo - TCPA". This game has been tested using the "Asm(" command and Rascall v0.9.

#####################
## GETTING STARTED ##
#####################

After you run the program, the main screen will come up. Here you may choose "NEW GAME" or "CONTINUE GAME". In the demo it doesn't matter which you select, you will always begin a new game. In the full version the game will save when you exit so that you may continue next time you play. I could have put this feature in for the demo but the demo isn't that long so I thought it wasn't necessary. Use the arrow keys and [2nd] to select. Once you press [2nd], the demo will begin and you will be on the Map screen.

########################
## OBJECT OF THE DEMO ##
########################

The demo takes place in Area 1 of the full game. You take control of Kelesis. There are 9 maps (3x3) to explore, items to purchase, enemies to battle and even a guardian (although the guardian is incomplete and very easy to defeat!). Once you have purchased the 3 items and defeated the Demon you have pretty much done all that you can on the demo.

#####################
## CONTROL SUMMARY ##
#####################

MAIN MENU:
Arrow Keys - Toggle selection
[2nd] - Choose current selection

MAP MODE:
Arrow Keys - Move
[2nd] - Attack
[MORE] - Inventory Screen
[EXIT] - Quit

VERTICAL MODE:
Arrow Keys - Move
[2nd] - Attack

INVENTORY SCREEN:
[ENTER] - Return to game

########################
## PLAYING GOLVELLIUS ##
########################

You begin Golvellius with a full Life Meter and one extra Life Potion. You will be able to purchase additional Life Potions from certain people during the course of the game.

Each successful attack from the enemies will deplete a portion of your Life Meter. When your Life Meter has turned white and you have no more Life Potions, you die and the game will end.

######################
## INVENTORY SCREEN ##
######################

When you enter the valley, pressing [MORE] will access the Inventory Screen. Here you can see how many crystals you have gathered and see what special items you have aquired.

###########
## CAVES ##
###########

All the people and demons you will encounter in the valley live in caves below ground. In most cases, these caves are concealed and you will have to defeat some of the enemies on screen for the entrance to be revealed.

#####################
## KNOW THY FRIEND ##
#####################

Here are the friendly folk you will meet in the course of the game. They will all turn up from time to time and each has something special to offer.

NOTE: On this demo version only some of the following characters will appear!

Wise Woman - The Wise Woman will have special items that you need to complete the game! They are kind, despite their sharp wit. Remember that you will have to pay for many of their items.

Rio - Rio is full of interesting hints and occasional bits of humor. She loves snow cones!

Enny (Annie) - If your Life Meter is running low, Enny will restore it for a price.

Randar - For the minor sum of 150 pieces of gold, Randar will restore your Life Meter and all your Life Potions. What a deal! When you are in need, Randar is a good friend indeed.

Dina - For some of your Life Potion, Dina will give you gold. It really doesn't hurt so bad when she puts the bite on you!

###################
## SPECIAL ITEMS ##
###################

Special Items can be found or purchased throughout the game. You will need them to defeat Golvellius and his minions! On the demo there are only three special items:

Life Potions - Buy every Life Potion you can. Golvellius and his demons are very strong and can do much damage every time they strike you!

Bibles - A Bible increases the amount of gold you can carry. You need Bibles, because some items in the game are very expensive!

Crystals - The seven crystals hold the key to Golvellius' power. You will find them after you have defeated certain demons.

#############
## ENEMIES ##
#############

These enemies appear all throughout the valley. But be careful. Some may look the same in different colors but are much more powerful! Here are the enemies that appear on the demo:

- Snake
- Bat
- Bee
- Crow

#########################
## PROJECT INFORMATION ##
#########################

There are many things to look forward to in the full version of this game:

- Over 180 maps to explore!
- 9 vertical/horizontal scrolling levels
- 8 Demons
- Heaps of different enemies
- Weapon & defense upgrades
- Special abilities/items
- Better sprites.. as you can see my graphics aren't one of my better talents...

Other things on this demo that will be updated include:

- Rewriting the Bat AI
- Finishing the Demon so that he throws objects at you

It was Zelda86 by the ACZ that inspired me to make this game. It is quite possibly the best TI-86 game I've ever seen and when I saw how great the grayscale looked, how smooth the gameplay was and how many little features had been packed in I knew I wanted to try and make an epic RPG for the 86.

So I went back to my childhood years on the Sega Master System ;) After downloading an emulator and some ROM's, I found what had been my favourite SMS game, Golvellius, which had once been dubbed the best Zelda look-a-like game for the SMS. I mapped out the whole game, including the location of all the items, what each character says, and began work on my TI-86 version.

My aim is to create one of the best TI calculator games out there. I feel this demo shows the potential this game has, and hopefully when it's finished it WILL be one of the best :)
