Well it has been a busy couple weeks' for the boys, Last week (7-7-02) was a
new chapter in life for the young driver of the #97 kart. After dominating the
field winning one heat and the feature while finishing a close second in the
second 8- lap heat race the track pulled a full tech on our motor. We had no
doubt we would be legal. But they found a grey area on the baffle in our fuel
tank and disqualified us for the day. After some phone calls talking to our
engine builder and another tech official we feel our tank was within the rules.
However the track would not reverse their decision. The bad news Brock got 0
points for the day and fell to second place in the standings behind the declared
winner Evin Klingaman. The good news was two fold, Brett had his best finish
ever in the feature being awarded second place. The second part of the good
news is after repairing our tank to meet LVMS tech Brock and the #97 showed
no mercy winning all 3 races in commanding style this past Sunday (7-14-02).
We proved the fuel tank made no noticeable power difference in our engines performance.
Brett started out the day with a 3rd place finish in heat 1. But the 00 slowed
down and pulled off the track after only 2 laps into the second heat with engine
failure. Brett had been turning his fastest laps ever both in practice on Saturday
and the first heat. With a frantic crew working to install a borrowed backup
motor Brett was able to just make the feature but had to start in last place.
With a borrowed motor that we did not even get to warm up Brett was able to
finish 7th out of the 8-kart field. This was good enough to keep him in 3 rd
place only 20 points a head of the 2m- kart. Brock was able to gain 110 points
on the leader and sits 477 behind as of now. Brock is 1 race short of the points
leader so he is closer than it sounds and Brett is 1 race ahead the 2m so things
are bound to heat up in the next couple weeks. On Monday we found that a stuck
exhaust valve was the only trouble in Brett's motor so he should be able to
run strong again this Sunday.
