Brock will have taken over the point battle after the official standings are posted later this week. Due to illness the points were not posted from last weeks race but we were only 172 behind as of august 11. Brock broke his own track record last week during qualifying with a blistering 22.053 bettering his old time by .209. This speed is only .98 below the rookie II lap record of 21.078. Brock went on to win the heat race and feature event. Brett posted a 5 place in qualifying and made a great last lap pass to take home 5th in the feature. This weeks action was hot early as the #97 karts motor was protested just before the first heat race was ran. With Brett on the pole and Brock behind him things looked good as Brett got a good start and pulled away form the #16 kart with Brock tucked in behind him and led the field until turn 3 when Brock got past, the #16 came on strong down the back stretch and passed, Brett drove a fine race and had all he could do to keep Casey Moore and the 14 kart behind him and held on to 3rd as Brock won with the 16 not far behind. Since it was a double points race the heats were only 8 laps. The second heat saw Brett starting last and Brock again starting 3rd in the 5kart field. Brock followed the pole setting 2m kart into turn 2 and took over the lead for good assuring a pole position for the feature. Brett got off the line was going for a pass in turn 3 but was clipped buy the 16 and spun out. Fortunately he was able to continue but gave up any chance for a good finish. The feature looked like a bad rerun, Brock on the pole and the #16 kart out side in the first row. At least all the warnings to the #16 kart for jumping the start paid off as the green flag waved the front row took off together with Brock leading and the #16 all over his rear bumper. The #16 was faster down the backstretch and bumped Brock heading into turn 6 and 7. The crew looked on nervously wondering if we slowed or they picked up. The field strung out in single file as Brock slowly pulled way form the #16. On about lap 4 the #16 was still to close for comfort trying to follow Brocks line when he got loose out of turn 7 and almost spun out. That gave Brock a little more running room and the 20 lap feature was all green. Brett cam home 5th after staring 5th but ran good all day. He was able to keep Brock from lapping him in the 20lap race, at least a small victory for the 00. Now the fun part!! The #16 kart paid $100.00 to protest our motor so after all the events finished we spent about 90 minutes watching and helping completely tear down and measure all the components of the #97's engine. Happy to say we passed with flying colors and were awarded the win and the double points along with $75.00 (not enough to pay for the motor repairs) for the tech. We want to give Mike Fox at Fox Power Equipment a special thank you for building us our "legal" and fast motor.
