Asuncion: After the 98 World Cup I developed a fascination with... Paraguay. A entire country, an equal of France, England, Brazil - but no-one knew anything about it. Stroessner/ landlocked/ chaco/ Mennonites/ waterfalls/ War Of The Triple Alliance: I knew more than many. And yet. Online, I found more detail than I ever thought possible in the CIA Factbook. I read it from cover to cover, or rather top to bottom. Bored the pants off Sam. It gnawed at me, and I drank it all in, including pictures of Asuncion that looked just like this. Four years later, the Factbook was very much on my mind as I pictured the banality of the Paraguayan capital.
