Selma Songs by Bjork
Dancer in the Dark Soundtrack review by Michael Rule
Selma Songs is a soundtrack that I listened to before seeing the movie.
I would prefer to see the movie first, but with foreign films that are too
expensive to access, I
expected here that the movie would remain unreleased. This was not the case
as The Dancer in the Dark got screenings, first at universities and
later at less mainstream cinemas in Northbridge. This is where I got the
chance to see what it was all about, and I found I was not at all close in
my own interpretation of the probable storyline of the movie. In 2003
I presented a brief review of the movie and my impressions before and
after the movie. Basicly my advice was; see the movie once, read the review twice and listen to the soundtrack lots! The title Dancer in the Dark led me to initially think the movie would be an expression of Bjorks relationship with her anonomous audience, too big now to be accessable and too far into the future to be tangible. Instead, the character Selma is blinded to all possiblilities outside her family and sees only her sons possible harm. |
