What a poor child ! Life must be tough in the refugee camp, isn't it !
You're only 18 and you've already suffered so much pain !
Of course, I'll tell you more about myself. I am a man and my name is Mike
Pukuotukas. My name Mike is written like the American name, however, in my
country it is pronounced in a different way. I'm 39 years old. I got
married with my wife Triuse Kapliadante 7 years ago. Triuse is 33 years
old. Unfortunately, we don't have any kids and we'll never have them. I
guess, life is not being fair with us, however, I'm afraid we can't change
anything. I always wanted to adopt a boy or a girl from the orphanage,
however, my wife is against that decision.
We live in Vilnius, which is the capital of Lithuania. It's a small country
close to the Baltic sea. At the moment we've got plenty of snow and it's
rather cold outside - 5 degrees below zero. It's not that bad, though. A
few days ago the temperature was even worse - 10 - 15 degrees below zero.
In a few days we'll be celebrating Christmas. During Christmas people send
postcards and give presents to each other and kids wait for Santa Claus to
bring them gifts. Oh, Christmas is the most wonderful season of the year !
How is it in your part of the world ? Do you celebrate Christmas ? Do you
buy gifts or send postcards to your loved ones ? All this is very
interesting for me, because I've never met anyone from your part of the
planet ! Maybe you won't believe that, but there are no black people in my
country.
I work for a big international company. I manage the Sales division and
that means that rather frequently I've got to travel to meet our biggest
customers. I've been working for this company for more than 7 years now.
Dear Saratu, I would like to assure you that I'll try to help you as much
as I can ! What is it what you want to tell me ? Do I have to keep that
secret from my wife Triuse ? Or should I tell her everything about that ?

Thank you very much for your reply ! It was so good to hear from you again.
My dear Saratu, following your advise yesterday I told my wife everything
about you ! She says it's like a miracle out of the blue sky and she is
very happy that we've been selected to help you ! I printed both your
e-mails, gave it to her and I saw tears in her eyes when she read your
letters ! And then before we went to bed we talked a lot about you, our
dear Saratu !
In my previous letter to you I mentioned that we can't have kids. My wife
Triuse visited many different medicine specialists, however, they can't
help us. Nobody can help us. Many years ago there was a terrible accident
in an atomic power plant in one of the neighbouring countries. When one of
its reactors exploded the poisonous cloud of radiation reached our country,
too. During all these years the radiation affected lives of many people -
lots of them died from cancer and some women can't have kids. One of them
is my beloved wife Triuse. It's very sad, because I grew up in a very big
family - I had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. They're all happily married now,
except my youngest brother Senis Besmegenis Jr. who died in a terrible
accident in spring of 1995. I always dreamt that when I get married I would
have at least 4 kids. What a terrible irony that we can't have our own kids
! That's why we are very happy that God has delivered you to us and we'll
both try to help you as much as we can !
Regarding a visit to Senegal I'll have to discuss that with Triuse in the
evening. Tomorrow is Sunday and I won't come back to the office till Monday
morning. By that time I should have some good news for you. Tell us a
little more about yourself ! We'd love to know you much better ! We don't
have a personal computer at home ( actually, I wanted to buy one some time
ago, but Triuse objected - she said that I ought to spend more time with
her, not in front of the computer screen ). That's why I can't reply to
your e-mails from home and that's why I've got to print out your letters
for my wife. Saratu, if you've got time, then you can write your e-mails as
long as you wish - we'd love to know as much about you as possible !

It is so good to hear from you again. I could not wait to check my e-mail
early this morning and when I read your letter I called Triuse and told her
that you called yourself our daughter. She was so excited ! I think that
she's started to like you, too. If we could only know how you look, our
dear Saratu ! If we only had your photograph, then we would put it on a
table in our dining room and we could pray to God for the joy and happiness
to you, our dear Saratu. I've got to tell you that would be the greatest
Christmas gift we've ever received !
I talked with Triuse about a trip to Senegal. She was a bit worried in the
beginning of our conversation and that's understandable, because we've
never been so far away from our home ! On the other hand, the trip to
Africa could be the most exciting adventure of our life ! And then we would
be able to meet with you and, most possibly, take you with us ! The only
thing that worries us a bit that climate in our country is rather rough -
we've got cold weather and plenty of snow most of the year and you might be
not used to such weather, are you ?
There is plenty of room in our house. I told you that I always dreamt about
having a big family. That's why many years ago we bought a big house on the
outskirts of Vilnius. There are 3 empty rooms on the second floor, so it's
up to you which room you're gonna choose. Dear Saratu, if you want I could
send you pictures of our house.
We'll talk about the trip to Senegal during Christmas holidays. This
evening we'll leave Vilnius and go and stay at Triuse's parents house for a
few days. They live in a small village which is about 250 km away from
Vilnius. Unfortunately, I won't be able to check my e-mail during that
time. We'll never stop thinking of you, though !
Dear Saratu, you suggest that we better don't get in touch with Red Cross
in Lithuania ? It's a pity, because Triuse has found out that one of her
good friends knows someone who works for that organisation and when you
know someone, then usually it's much easier to arrange things if you know
what I mean. Give it a second thought, Saratu, we won't tell them about the
money, only that you need help and maybe it would even be of some use when
we take you with us to Lithuania.
I've got another practical question - what is your citizenship ? I intend
to contact our Foreign Ministry when all Christmas holidays are over and I
will ask them what needs to be done if someone from Senegal or Sierra Leone
wants to visit our country. That's why I need to know what's your
citizenship.
I won't be able to call Dr.Kingsly. I can't do that from the office,
because all calls abroad must be approved and a call to Senegal won't be
approved because we don't have any business relations in your country. I'll

Dear Saratu,
It is so good to hear from you again ! And it was so good to speak with you
on the phone ! How are you, dear ? We returned from the village this
morning and I understood that we wouldn't not be able to wait till Monday -
that's why I came to the office straight away to let you know that both of
us are all right and that we think of you, our dear Saratu. The office is
closed during weekend and I had a bit of trouble to persuade the security
guard to let me in just for 20 minutes - that's why this e-mail is going to
be rather brief.
And we both regret that we could not call you back, dear Saratu ! My mobile

can not be made from that phone. Triuse was in a local store when you
called, however, I told her about your call as soon as she got back home.
She was a little sad that she wasn't home at the time of your call and that

she ought to be more patient and wait, however, she always gives me some
hard time about your picture. And if you are worried that we might not like
something about your appearance, then you should not be worried at all ! We
like you, Saratu, and we like your voice when we have those telephone
conversations ! If only we could have your photograph ! If it's not
possible for some reasons, then you should not be ashamed to tell us that.
We live in a different world, however, we will understand that.
Life is back to normal after the holiday season and everyone's back at

Unfortunately, I can not go to Spain right away. January is usually very busy for our firm and my boss won't approve my vacations now. But I believe that in February things will be different and I ought to be able to get a few days off.
But if I understood Mr.Larry's instructions correctly, we might need some time to take care of some legal paperwork. He writes that I should have a letter of authorisation or a letter of power of attorney from you. Will you be able to get these papers in your country ? citizens from all African countries must obtain a visa if they want to
enter the territory of Lithuania. We don't have our embassies in any of African countries, however, it is not a problem. I'll take care of all the matters related to your visit in Lithuania. I'm just going to need a couple of papers: 1) a copy of your passport and 2) a letter in which you should briefly write why do you want to visit Lithuania and ask to issue a tourist visa. I'll sort it our with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and you'll get the visa in your passport when you cross the border of our country !
