SYNOPSIS OF CHAPTERS

Chapter 1: Nephi begins the record of his people, lehi sees in vision a pillar of fire and reads from a book of prophecy, he praises God, fortells the coming of the messiah and prophecies the destruction of jerusalem, he is persecuted by the jews.

Chapter 2: Lehi takes his family in the wilderness by the red sea and they leave their property, lehi offers a scarifice to the Lord and teaches his sons to keep the commandments, laman and lemuel mumur against their father, nephi is obedient and prays in faith, the Lord speaks to him and is chosen to rule over his bretheren

Chapter 3: ChapterLehi’s sons return to jerusalem to obtain the plates of brass, Laban refuses to give them up, Nephi exhorts and encourages his brethren, Laban steals their property and attempts to slay them, Laman and Lemuel spite nephi andare reproved by an angel

Chapter 4: Nephi slays laban at the Lords command, and then obtains the plates of brass by stratagem, zoram chooses to join nephi’s family in the wilderness

Chapter 5: Sariah complains against lehi, both rejoice over the return of their sons, they offer sacrifices, the plates of brass contains writing of moses and the prophets, they identify lehi as a descendant of joseph, lehi prophecies concerning his seed, and the preservation of the plates

Chapter 6: Nephi writes the things of God, his purpose is to persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and be saved.

Chapter 7: Lehies sons return to jerusalem and enlist ishmael and his family in their cause, Laman and others rebel, nephi exhorts his brethren to have faith in the Lord, they bind him with cords and plan his destruction, he is freed by the power of faith, his brethren ask forgiveness, lehi and his company offer scarifice and burnt offerings

Chapter 8: Lehi sees a vision of thr tree of life, he partakes ofd the fruit and desires of his family that they do likewise, he sees a rod of iron, a straight and narrow path, and the mists of darkness that enshroud men, nephi, sariah and sam partake of the fruit, but laman and lemuel refuse,

Chapter 9: nephi makes two sets of plates, each is called the plates of nephi, the larger plates contain a secular history, the smaller ones deal primarily with sacred things

Chapter 10: lehi predicts the babylonian captivity, he tells of the coming among the jews of a svior, a messiah, a redeemer,he tells also the comong of the one who should baptize the lamb of God, Lehi tells of the death and resurection of the messiah, he compares the scattering and gathering of israel to an olive tree, nephi speeks of the son of God, of the gift of the holy ghost, and of the need of righteousness.

Chapter 11: Nephi sees the vision of the tree of life

Tree is the the love of God

The rod of iron is the word of God

The living waters are a representation of the love of God

The large and spacious building is the pride of the world

Chapter 12: Nephi sees the death of Christ and the results in the promised land and ordains the twelve

The fountain of filthy water and the river are the depths of hell

The mists of darkness are the temptations of the devil

Sees the destruction of the nephites by the lamanites

Chapter 13: Nephi sees the great and abominable church(the church of the devil) that they pervert the right way of God. Colonizing of America and the cming forth of the book of mormon.

Chapter 14: The blessings and cursings of the gentiles, there are only two churches: the church of God and the church of the devil, John shall right about the end of the world in the last days.

Chapter 15: Lehi’s seed receives the word of the Lord from the gentiles in the latter days. Nephi gives an account of the vision of the tree of life.

The rod of iron is the word of God

The filthy water is a representation of that awful hell prepared for the wicked

Chapter 16: The wicked take the truth to be hard, Nephi’s bow breaks, the liahona, Ishmael dies and the daughters of ishmael murmur.

Chapter 17: Nephi is commanded to build a ship, he commands his brethren not to touch him or they will wither as a dried reed.

Chapter 18: The ship is finished and they leave for the promised land, jacob and joseph are born, laman and lemuel rebel and the ship is thrown back for four days, they repent and arrive in the promised land.

Chapter 19: Nephi makes plates of ore and records the history of his people. Christ shall come 600 years after lehi and his family left jerusalem, prophecies of the savior and his crucifiction.

Chapter 20: The Lord reveals his purposes to israel, compare isaiiah 8.

Chapter 21: The messiah shall be a light to the gentiles and shall free the prisoners, israel shall be gathered with power in the last days, compare isaiiah 49

Chapter 22: Israel shall be scattered upon all the face of the earth, the gentiles shall nourish and nurse israel with the gospel in the last days, israel shall be gathered and saved and the wicked shall burn as stubble, the kingdom of the devil shall be destroyed and satan shall be bound
