Moro RockSequoia National Park, July 4, 2002
Moro Rock is an enormous granite outcropping in Sequoia National Park that offers a panoramic view of the valley up to the Great Western Divide. Unfortunately Mt. Whitney is hidden behind these towering peaks, but the view is incredible nonetheless. To get to the top of the rock we climbed a steep stone staircase built into the rock in the 1930s. Along the way there were several signs to look at while we caught our breath. It was sunny but the air was cool late in the afternoon and there were a few crows hovering in the updraft from the valley below. After about 300 steps, we reached the top and were treated to a 360 degree view of the mountains and the valleys. It was incredible! While we couldn't see the Coast Range as some had suggested, it seemed like we could see forever. |
