Crusades
The Crusades were a holy war against the Mohammedan religion {the infidels} Pagan religions and Heretics.

From the eleventh  to the fifteenth centuries, all crusades were under the direction of the Popes.

All warriors were given a cross from the pope after giving a solemn vow to God, which made them a soldier of the church.

Crusades took a long time to complete in the eighth century the Anglo-Saxon St. Willibald, Bishop of Eichstadt took seven years.  722 - 729  to visit Jerusalem
