| Is Christianity a White Mans religion? Today here in South Africa this question is being asked. Since the gospel came to South Africa from Europe, perhaps it is true. Perhaps the gospel and Jesus are only for Europeans. Lets see what the Bible has to say about this important question. 1) According to the Bible, we all share the same ancestors. If we go back to the time of Noah, we find that there were only eight people in the world. We all have Noah as a father and his wife as our mother. In Genesis 6:8 we see that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. In Genesis 6:9 the Bible declares that Noah was a just man. He alone of the human race worshipped the true God. Now all of our relativesEuropean and Africandeparted from the true God. But we all came from the one man who worshipped the true God. Therefore, this religion is for everyone. 2) True religion was kept pure through Noahs son Shem. Neither Europeans nor Africans trace their ancestry back to Shem. Through Shem God kept true worship pure. One of Shems decedents was Abraham who is the father of the Jewish nation. In Genesis 12:3, God made an amazing promise to Abraham. God said, in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. That means that all the nations of the world were to be made happy through Abraham. How? In Galatians 3:8, God is said to have preached the gospel to Abraham. In verse 9 we find that they who are of faith are blessed by faithful Abraham. Finally in verse 13 we see that Christ hath redeemed us from the curse [of the Law] being made a curse for us You say, Wait, I am confused. How does any of this mean anything to me? Good question. Heres the point. Two thousand years passed from Abraham until one of his decedents was born by the name of Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world (John 1:29; 6:33; 1 John 2:2) and rose again the third day. He died for the sins of the worldAfricans and Europeans. When we receive Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are forgiven all our sins and so we are truly blessedblessed through Abraham. The blessing of God is through Christ to the entire world. Have you received this blessing? 3) Finally, the gospel is for all. In Mathew 28:19 Jesus says to his disciples, Go and teach all nations He didnt say to go to European nations, but to all nationsincluding African nations. Those were the marching orders for the early churchtake the gospel to all nations. And that they did. But you know what is interesting? The gospel came to Africa before it came to Europe. The first instance of an African becoming a Christian is recorded in Acts 8, but the first European convert isnt found until Acts 16. Africa actually had Christianity before Europe. The gospel of Christ, that He died on the cross for your sins, was buried and rose again is for alleven you. If you put your full trust in His work on the cross for your sins as the only way to heaven He will save you. Acts 16:31 says, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. |
