F.d.A. Releases New Study; Indicates Mercury Beneficial For Newborns
     [By Susan Gillespie.]

Today, the Federal drug Agency (F.d.A.) released the findings of its latest study of ethyl mercury as a necessary supplement for pregnant women, newborns and toddlers.  The study finds that mercury is clinically indicated as a necessary component for gestation and newborn neurological development.  Ethyl mercury is also advised for children as delicate synaptic connections are made, particularly in the frontal lobe of the brain, and more specifically during the period of speech development.

This study comes at a time when the injection of ethyl mercury into the bloodstream of children is being assailed by histrionic parents.  To date, there has been no conclusive evidence linking the administration of 237.5 micrograms of mercury by age 2, in the form of Thimerosal, to anecdotal cases of mercury toxicity in children being reported across the nation.  (The EPA safe limit for adult exposure to mercury is .1 mcg/kilogram weight/day.)  At present, this hypothesis can neither be confirmed nor denied; however, in the opinion of the F.d.A., the evidence does not support a causal association.

Researchers are quick to note that inadvertent mercury exposure through the consumption of fish is a completely different matter, and that pregnant women, newborn infant and children should refrain from delicacies such as swordfish, grouper, and shark, and limit their tuna intake.  The F.d.A. is now seeking a scientist with the appropriate pharmaceutical training and tutelage to oversee a study demonstrating that while digestion of mercury poses known and serious neurological consequences, injecting this same toxin into the blood stream, even before the blood-brain barrier has formed, does not.

Indeed, the F.d.A. is so convinced of the health benefit conferred by intramuscular injection of ethyl mercury that the total exposure through pediatric vaccines (if a child is fortunate enough to receive select brands and lots from the 1990's which remain on doctors' shelves, loaded with the preservative Thimerosal) has just increased with the addition of the flu shot to the current immunization schedule for both children and pregnant women.  This addition was unanimously approved by the C.d.C. (Centers for damage Control).

In other news, the F.d.A. is seeking to safeguard the public health and children who suffer from the assumed genetic disorder known as autism.  It has warned that parents who detox their autistic children of high levels of mercury, and supplement mineral and vitamin deficiencies documented in laboratory reports, are being duped.  The vanguard of the public health, the F.d.A. has raided purveyors of such supplements, charging false advertising.  The F.d.A. has declared that there is no hope of recovery for children with autism, to the grateful relief of parents around the globe.  To repeat, the F.d.A. and the C.d.C. have clarified that the uncanny similarity between presenting symptoms in mercury toxicity and autism is merely coincidental.

Americans should be thankful for the unbiased research and unequivocal guidance of our nation's most powerful health agencies in this complex matter.  Certainly, cases in which children have lost the label of autism after biological treatment are inconsequential and statistically irrelevant.  Paramount in the evaluation of mercury's safety, efficacy, and health benefit are statistical, not clinical studies, in which numbers, and not children undergoing treatment, present reliable data and projected outcomes.

The C.d.C. wishes to express its thanks to those concerned and charitable pharmaceutical companies from which it has received inordinate patronage.
