Yaguaron
This peaceful little town lies about 30 miles outside the capitol city of Asuncion and is the home of one of Paraguay's most beautiful old churches.
This church was constructed between 1640 and 1775 in what is called the Spanish-Gaurani Baroque style.
Typical in this style is the intricate yet very solid wood work and the wide outer corridors which run all around the ouside of the church.
The beautiful woodwork is the design of the Portuguese master Juan de Souza Cavadas.  The paint was all prepared by local Indians from local plants.
The bell tower, which doubled as a watch tower, is a wooden structure and was always located a short distance from the church.
