The Alaknanda River joins the Bhagirathi at the holy town of Deevprayag to form the holy Ganga (Ganges) River.  Our three days on the rivers took us down the Alaknanda and the Ganga.
At the confluence, pilgrims gather for a holy dip in the Ganga.  High above the confluence, a temple helps bring prayers to fruition while the faithful bring a bell as a gift signifying the fulfillment of their prayer!
When cultures meet, the images can be striking!
We were fortunate to finish our expedition with an evening in Rishikesh where pilgrims gather each evening on the banks of the Ganga to sing their prayers for this holy river.
