The Paraguayan Harp
In Paraguay, perhaps the most popular folk instrument is the harp.  But the harp of Paraguay is not the fully chromatic, classical harp.  Instead it is a diatonic folk harp, much like the folk harps of Ireland.
Meet Miguel, the craftsman who made my harp.
To build a strong instrument which produces a rich sound, differents types of wood are selected and glued together.
Even the strings are hand crafted.  The largest strings are formed by spinning string around a central string.
The wood is carefully finished to create a beautiful instrument.

I am currently taking harp lessons from Ruben Sanabria.  Here you can see Ruben and I in concert for my school's Folklore Day celebration.
We played two traditional Paraguayan songs, Mis Noches Sin Ti (My Nights Without You) and Misiones (named for the beautiful ruins of the Jesuit Missions in southern Paraguay.
