As an experiment to see the reach and power of the Napster service, I kept a tally of all downloads from my PC during 2 week period. I left my PC on and connected to Napster at most times. The good majority of these songs are owned in one form or another by me on a CD, Album, or Cassette. I have used Napster to try out music from bands such as Moby and The Gypsy Kings, which I have later bought CDs from. To be honest, when I try out music I don't like, I delete it from my PC. And when I find music I do like, I often buy the CD. I own approximately 600 CDs/Albums/Cassettes so for someone to think that I am using Napster to build my own CD collection would be ridiculous. I have been surprised to see the listening patterns of fans out there. Obviously, the newer popular bands such as The Foo Fighters, Moby, Blink 182, and Garth Brooks are the most frequently downloaded. But older artists such as Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, and Weird Al Yankovic were also very popular. I seemed to also reach targeted audiences with The Big Lebowski soundtrack and The Gypsy Kings.
