A Tour in Tuzla

Tuzla AB is in Northeastern Bosnia, about 2-hours driving time north of Sarajevo.
Okay... I've been really bad... I know...  A full month has passed without an update to the page, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by many.  The fact is, so much has happened over the last month, I didn't really know where to start.  So here it goes...
The "Dom"
The 401st Expeditionary Air Base Group is responsible for airfield operations in support of
Mult-iNational Division North (MND-N)
Every pub had a party, and folks were wandering the streets late into the morning, singing and having a great time. We ran into the group below sometime after midnight... I tried to order a beer, but they said they only had coffee or tea...
I tried to get them to bring me a beer... they only offered coffee or tea!
Karnival!
After 60 days in Bosnia, I took what I feel was a well deserved break. I, along with four co-workers, left the wonderful confines of Eagle Base to travel to Germany.  Our original plans were to travel to Munich, which was then changed to a trip to Amsterdam... until finally, the decision was made to travel to Cologne to celebrate Karnival, or as it is known in the southern part of Germany, Fasching.  I can't honestly say that we went sight-seeing... to be honest, we never left the city center, where all the action was. In any case, the city center is the location of the oldest church in Europe, known as the "Dom".  While I must admit that it is a beautiful building, I couldn't help but reminded of vampire movies when looking at it... We headed downtown immediately after checking into our hotel, we had no plans, no travel agenda, and... no idea where were going!  So we walked in the same direction as everyone else... and ran into an all-night party in the streets...
We woke up the next morning (actually, about 4-5 hours later) and headed downtown to watch the Rose Monday parade... it lasted 5 hours!  From every float they threw candy and toys for the kids and flowers to the women... and to the men... nothing! Now, I have to say for those who don't know me too well... I'm only a social drinker, you know, a beer here and there with friends... but having nothing to do at the parade, and still slightly hungover from the night before, we decided to have a few beers...
Candy for everyone...
And can you believe... I'm sober!
Our second night in Cologne was much like the first... walking the streets and meeting people. For me, what stands out from this trip is this: Hundreds of thousands of people, drinking beer, and wandering the streets, having a great time and celebrating... and not a single fight or single raised voice. Incredible! We had a great time and really enjoyed the opportunity to get out.
Another update coming in the next couple of days... really!
In an effort to not stand out in the crowd, we were obligated to buy goofy hats and drink a lot of beer!
Color costumes were the fashion du jour

Everyone was having a great time, and with the exception of groups who dressed in matching outfits, you never saw someone else wearing the same costume...
