How to Check Your Tire Pressure
Tire pressure is one of the easiest and most important things to check on your car regularly.  Proper inflation will help gas mileage and give you maximum tire life possible.  If it's underinflated it could lead to tire failure.  If you overinflate it, the tires could be damaged more easily by potholes and/or road debris.  Basically you can blow a tire and end up losing control of your car.
Everytime before I get in my car I usually take a quick look at my tires.  I usually look for a bulge at the part of the tire that contacts the ground.  Here it is hard to see, but there is no bulge.  On lower profile tires, it is harder to spot a bulge.  On higher profile tires, it may be ok for just a bit of bulge.
The best way to check your tire pressure is with a tire pressure gauge.  It is good to get a decent quality gauge.  I like the dial type gauges.  Especially the one below because I can easily see a 1psi difference.
Maybe your wondering what is the right pressure for my tires.  Well I don't know, but your car can tell you. First you gotta find out what size tires you have on your car.  Some models came with more than 1 choice of size.  Here are a couple examples.
225/45 ZR 17 - Front tire
245/40 ZR 17 - Rear tire
Well I don't know what tire pressure should be used on your car, but your car will tell you.  A few places to look for the tire pressure spec for your car is either in the owner's manual, door jam, fuel filler door, or somewhere under the hood.  On my car the sticker is in the door jam.
I'll work with the 245/40 ZR 17 tire.  Acording to the sticker I should have my rear tire at 32psi ("Load up to" pressure).  This pressure should be your cold "unloaded" pressure.  That means you should have not driven it at least overnight and the car is in the shade.  If you had warm tires and you set the pressure at 32psi, the next morning your tires will be read underinflated (bad).  So it's best if you do it in the morning.
Now first find your valve stem, and remove the cap.
Now take your tire pressure gauge and press it against the valve.  Then read gauge.
If you noticed my tires look like they're over inflated at 39 psi.  They are actually at the right pressure because I was drove it around for about 5 minutes before taking the pic.  As you can see, only 5 minutes of driving brings up the pressure.  Actually, I have my cold pressure set at 35psi.  This is because I set it for my aggresive style of driving.  I do not recommend anyone to set their tire pressure differently from what the manufacturer recommends.

Adjust your tire pressure accordingly.  Your local gas station should have a air compressor if you should need more air.  Don't forget to check your spare tire.  After that just put the cap back on, and you're all done.  Now go drive and enjoy your BMW.
