Camping at Indian Creek July 2002
We drove up in the Focus and the evil Nissan.  As you can imagine, Cameron was happy when we finally got there. Yes, we had 2 adults, 4 children, 2 dogs, and enough gear for 3 days camping in these two little cars.
Total trip time: about 3 hours.
The campground is pretty.  It's on the semi-arid east slope of the Sierra's, so it's naturally kinda dry, but the trees and mountains surrounding the area are beautiful.
There's several vernal lakes in the area (lakes that naturally dry up as the summer goes on).  One of these was just behind the campground.  It looked like a moonscape out in the middle. It was very cool.  Cameron and I took a walk across it, and examined the lake-floor.  Very desolate but very cool.
On the far side of the dry lake we came to a barbed-wire fence overlooking this meadow.  Get this: it's PRIVATE PROPERTY.  Imagine owning this little piece of beauty.  Wow.
While we were there, a fire was burning NOT VERY FAR AWAY over near Hwy 395 & Hwy 89.  We watched the smoke closely for serveral days.  Turns out we were never in any danger, but still, I was just a tad nervous about it.

The smaller 2 photos to the left were taken from the campsite, and  are large format with pretty good detail.  They might take a second or two to download.  The lower one was taken from the lakeshore.
We took our dogs, Bitsie (the yellow lab)  and Jett (the black mutt). Bitsie was miserable and sore most of the time, but very well mannered.  Jett is a bit more, uhm.. energetic and had to adjust some, but she wound up being very good.  Overall, I'm gload we took them.
No one swam in the lake.  It had .... stuff in it.  It looked like bright green pine needles, but was algae.  I've never seen nething like it, but the lake was full of it.
Kids around the campfire at night, Lindsey in a hammock, Cameron climbing trees, and me gagging or something, I dunno.... A good time was had by all.
Storm clouds started gathering the morning we left, so it was time to bug out.
Indian Creek campground is located at Indian Creek Reservoir inside the Bureau of Land Management's Indian Creek Recreation Area.  This campground has nice facilities in the transition zone between forest and high desert.  Campsites are located in fairly dense forest of Ponderosa/Jeffrey pine and the squattier desert pion pine.  The entrance area sites are little less shady but have good lake access (these sites are for tents only).  Sites in the rear loop are shadier and allow RV's (but have limited to no lake access).
