And the sign says "WETSU" which means We Eat This S*** Up... Oh well, you just had to be there.

The trophy was for being the best platoon in the company.


Following breakfast we got to meet the barber, after which I must say it was a little drafty on top. We then had a fitting for the new style of green that we would be wearing for the next few years. We had our pictures taken, wearing nothing but the jacket, shirt, tie, and hat with our underwear and socks - not very dignified, I must say! (the picture at the top of this page) We were then assigned to our new home away from home. Mine was at D-1-5, and then the fun began! The drill instructor had us line up, saying all he wanted to see was 4 little rows of rabbit ****. One of the drill instructors said he would be both our mommy and our daddy while we were at his place. He and some other drill instructors taught us how to beat up on one another and how to shoot a rifle, the army way (as shown in photos).

Anyway after all this they sent me to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. to become a Combat Engineer. After a short leave at home, they put me on a big airplane and sent me to Viet-Nam. When I got there with all my combat training, they put me in an amphibious unit - go figure! But that's the army way and that's where my home page began...
