Artificial Intelligence

Since the invention of the computer, progress in this area has been advancing at a very gradual pace. We now have calculators that can figure mathematical equations, scanners that can read, and even smart cars that talk.

Perhaps artificial intelligence can be created by combining the technology we already have. The principle items needed are a massive hard drive, word processor, monitor, video camera, voice modulator, and a scanner. All of which should be wired together to function as a single unit.

Volumes of encyclopedias, dictionaries, philosophy, psychology, theology, math, science, and medical books, daily newspapers, etc., should be scanned into the computer's memory.

Since dictionaries contain the phonetic spelling of every word, someone can simultaneously type each phonetic symbol into the computer and pronounce its sound into the voice modulator, which would enable the computer to speak and to respond to the spoken word. This could be done in all languages.

A similar process should be undertaken with the video camera. Objects, photographs, and people can be shown to the camera while someone enters into the data base the name of what is being viewed. This would allow the computer to recognize what it sees. The camera would also enable the computer to watch and record any proceedings at which it is present.

Once all of this has been done, the computer will know the processes of human thought. By knowing the processes of thought and the meanings of all the words, just as a calculator knows the equations of math and all of the numbers, the computer should be able to think and carry on a conversation. At the very least, it would function as an invaluable source of information.
