Hyde sat in his chair, a scowl across his handsome features.

"How can she be taking that... SHMUCK back for a 'trial basis'???" he wondered a bit sourly, looking over at Jackie sitting at the edge of the couch nearest to him, talking with Kelso.

Jackie glanced over at Hyde and gave him a tenative half-smile.

"He looks like he's in a bad mood... I wonder what's wrong?" she thought.

"He's not HALF good enough for her..." Hyde decided silently. "Not that I care, cause I don't..." he reassured himself, "but... man... she can do so much... better... God, her taste in men is getting progressively worse, even though he's who she STARTED with..."

"Ugh, does Micheal EVER carry on an intelligent conversation?" she thought, trying--- but failing--- to force a smile onto her face. "I mean, what am I DOING? He's... an idiot! And... God, why did I ruin everything with Steven?" she thought, drawing in a shuddering sigh, looking over at him out the corner of her eye. "I mean, I felt things before; it was just... I built WAY too much expectations into it, and when the Earth didn't move... God, I'm a moron; this is my FAULT, I deserve what I get..." she thought derisively.

"Poor Hyde..." Donna thought. "He's so totally stuck on her, and he lets that damned pride of his get in the way... Well, I guess it's like my mom once said, 'you keep your pride, honey, and in about 20 years you can tell your cats about it'..."

"This is just... wrong. Just... wrong and bad, bad and wrong..." Eric thought, shaking his head. "Jackie doesn't like Kelso; you can look in her eyes and see she's in love with Hyde... And, Hyde's so jealous right now, his eyes have gone from blue to green... Those two are so damned stubborn it'll be fifty years before one of them admits it on their own, though..."

"Hey, Jackie?" Kelso asked suddenly.

"Hmmm?" she answered absently.

"Ah, is my trial period over yet?"

"What?"

"Can we... um... ya know..."

"MICHEAL!" she screeched, appalled.

"You're a pig, Kelso." Hyde said disgustedly.

"Oh, PLEASE, Hyde---"

"No, Micheal... that's it. I don't care anymore; if I have to become an old-maid, I can't take this..."

"One little comment and you dump me???" he whined.

"NO! Not 'one little comment'! You... you're..."

"A moron?" Hyde supplied in a helpful tone.

"Hey!" Kelso protested.

"The lady looked like she could use some help." Hyde smirked.

"Thank you, Steven. Yes, KELSO, you are a MORON, and... I... I..."

"Deserve better?" Donna put in in an equally helpful tone.

"Yes, I DO deserve better. Thank you, Donna." Jackie nodded.

"Donna! Bad friend!" Kelso yelled, stomping his foot.

"Kelso, you sleep with anything that will let you, and Jackie can have any guy she WANTS. Why would she want a cheating simpleton?" Donna retorted.

"OHHH!!! Well... well... it's not like she's so easy to put up with!" he finished lamely.

"ME??? PUH-LEEZE! At least I know the meaning of the word 'loyalty'!" she snapped.

"Yeah? Is that why when you fell asleep at the drive-in last night you called out Hyde's name?"

Jackie looked at Kelso in wide-eyed shock, blushing hotly and bolted out of the basement as fast as her legs would carry her...
