I purchased this vehicle through classifieds2000.com in late September of 1999. I, my wife and two good friends flew from ND to Whidbey Island, WA and drove this beast all the way back home to ND. It originally came equipped with a 4 cylinder Nissan Turbo Diesel and a close-ratio 4 speed, but the previous owner must've blown that combination up. It now has an IH 345 v8 backed by a 727 Torqueflight automatic. Everything else is original. When I'm finished, it'll be 1980 IH Red with 1978 Rallye stripes, 2.5" Skyjacker suspension lift and 31x10.5" BFG TA/KO's on white-spoke 15x8 wheels.
Current modifications:
- Pertronix ignition - Edelbrock 1405 w/electric choke - K&N Air Filter - Electric radiator fan - New rocker panels
- New door lips - All new seals - Dupli-Color bedliner - New carpet & an extra layer of insulation - Late-model Ford Thunderbird leather seats
The pic on the left is of a buddy's '78 Scout and my '80 (the one with the square headlights). Both have 345 IH v8's and 727 Torqueflight automatic transmissions.
Here's a shot of what happens when the previous owner leaves the top off in the rain too much.
This is my '80 after I used Dupli-Color's roll-on bedliner in the rear. Quite an improvement!
Here's what I found under my rubber mat floor. I made the mistake of assuming the only rust I had was the rust I saw - WRONG!
