Chapter Two
Two days later Kay flopped down across the small bed in Miguel's room on the ship, just after the boat launched. "I think I'm dying," she moaned, as she pulled the pillow over her face.
Miguel looked up with amusement from the video game he was playing in the chair by the window. "Come on Kay," he answered. "It's not that bad. We haven't even left Harmony Harbor yet."
"Remind me again what possessed me to agree to this?" she asked, her voice muffled by the pillow.
Miguel laughed and walked over to sit next to her on the bed. "Just think Kay, another week and a half of this, and you'll be a pro," he teased.
Kay sat up suddenly, flinging the pillow across the small room. "Week and half?" she asked. "I thought you said it was only going to take five days to get there. By my count that's just over half a week."
"Multiplied by two," Miguel reminded her. "We've got to come back, too."
"Oh no," Kay wailed. "Just kill me now. I can't be on a boat that long! Baseball is so not worth this. I should have just let you take Jess and lose!"
"Kay, I have a confession to make," Miguel started.
"They have priests for that," Kay answered, flopping back.
"Promise you won't get mad?" he asked.
"No," she said bluntly.
Miguel was about to continue when a knock sounded at the door. He reluctantly got up to answer it, and found Sheridan Crane standing on the other side. "Miguel, Luis wants to know if you've seen Kay Bennett," Sheridan said.
"Yeah, she's in here," Miguel answered.
"Oh good. Luis also said that everyone is going to spend the rest of the day exploring the ship, and we'll dock in San Marino tomorrow afternoon for a few hours," Sheridan told him.
"Okay, thanks Sheridan," Miguel said, as he closed the door. It was still kind of hard for him to believe that his brother was dating Sheridan Crane, but stranger things have happened. None came to mind, but he was sure there had been stranger things.
"Kay?" he asked.
"Let me die in peace Miguel," came her muffled reply.
"Come on Kay, we have to explore the ship," he said as he pulled her off the bed.
"Why have I heard the phrase 'come on Kay, we have to' from you more times in the last three days than I have in the last three months?" she grumbled.
"Because we didn't have anything fun and exciting to do in the last three months," Miguel said sensibly. He was determined to prove to Kay that he was still just as good of a best friend as he had ever been. He knew he had been neglecting their friendship since Charity came to town, but it seemed like he just hadn't had enough to time to spend with Charity at first. But now he was beginning to miss the everyday things he and Kay used to do together.
"Oh fine," Kay gave up. "But we're not going on the deck."

"Kay, you've gotta see the view from up here!" Miguel yelled as he looked over the railing of the top deck.
"No way," Kay answered as she clung for dear life to the pair of doors that led into the ballroom. "You've completely lost your mind!"
"Kay," Miguel called, as he walked toward her. "Please."
"Don't you dare give me that look!" Kay exclaimed, continuing to cling. "It's not going to work. No way."
Miguel just continued to walk toward her until he was standing right in front of her. "Come on Kay," he pouted. "Don't you trust me?"
"I trust you," Kay answered. "I just don't trust the boat captain." She stubbornly held fast as Miguel attempted to pry her fingers off the door. It took him a good five minutes, but he managed to accomplish the task.
"Come on," he said as he pulled her toward the railing.
"I'm not scared," Kay chanted as Miguel forced her step up and look over the railing.
"Kay, look down," he said. She only shook her head and gripped the railing as hard as she could, refusing to open her eyes. She felt Miguel's hands cover her own as he whispered. "Kay, come on. I'm right behind you. Do you think I'm going to let anything happen to you?"
"No," Kay answered as she took a deep breath. She slowly opened her eyes, and saw that the sun was setting over the ocean. "Oh wow," she breathed, relaxing back against Miguel. "It's beautiful."
"Told you so," Miguel teased softly.
"I hate to admit it, but you're right," Kay answered. "I just realized that this isn't as scary as I thought." She turned around to see Miguel looking down into her eyes.
"I just realized something too," Miguel swallowed hard. How could he have never noticed how beautiful Kay was? "Kay?"
"Yeah?" she whispered, as their faces were just inches apart.
"Miguel! Kay!" Justin hollered as he came up the stairwell. Miguel and Kay jumped apart quickly, an action that didn't go unnoticed by Justin. "Hey guys, Luis wants everyone back in their rooms. There's supposed to be a big storm rolling in." Miguel and Kay followed Justin down the stairwell in silence, while Justin rolled his eyes in exasperation. It was obvious they had fallen for each other, now if only they would realize it.
