| The Estadi Olimpic de Montjuic was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies and the track and field competition for the 1992 Olympics. The stadium was inaugurated in 1929 but largely renovated for the Olympics with a capacity of 54,000. An Olympic museum and gallery can be found under the south-east corner. Actually, the stadium it's being used for two different teams: RCD Espanyol, an Spanish soccer team founded in 1900 that arrives to Montjuic in 1997 after the demolition of the historic Estadi de Sarria, and Barcelona Dragons, the proffesional football team of the city. The stadium stands on the summit of Montjuic, a large hill situated in the south-west of the city, overlooking the harbour. The Metro stations of Espaa, Poble Sec and Paralel all stand at the foot of the hill and Paralel has connections with a funicular railway which heads up to an amusement park. |
