Before
charter change, federalism and anything else, Gloria
must first resign and account for her actions
For OFWs
and their families, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should step
down before anything else happens.
"We overseas Filipino workers, our families and
the Filipino people are strongly demanding for the resignation
or ouster of Macapagal-Arroyo. We also support the establishment
of a transition governing council to set the nation
on the right track for genuine reforms in the economy
for majority of the populace," MIGRANTE Sectoral
Party Chairperson Connie Bragas-Regalado said.
The Migrante
leader and former Hong Kong domestic worker hastened
to add that "we have long suffered from the various
anti-OFW and anti-people policies that have worsened
under the Macapagal-Arroyo regime. From negligent diplomatic
posts, the violent repression of dissent and runaway
price hikes in oil, basic commodities and services,
this administration has worsened the already miserable
lives of our people,"
Migrante Sectoral Party chapters in 20 countries are
having simultaneous activities with today's protests
in Makati City.
"We
are conducting all forms of actions here and abroad:
from petitions, forums, assemblies and the ongoing boycott
of remitting via formal channels. Our No Resign, No
Remit Campaign will continue to gain ground in Hong
Kong, Italy, Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada, the USA,
Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and elsewhere as
long as Gloria clings on to power," Bragas-Regalado
said.
Migrante also criticized various quarters pushing for
federalism via charter change.
"The
problematic system of government will definitely have
to be addressed. But we have to take the first step:
the resignation of Arroyo. The proposal of former President
Fidel Ramos is a bare-faced maneuver to get the reins
of power along with Jose de Venecia and other former
military generals. The die-hard Gloria loyalists want
to prevent the people from getting the immediate economic
and policy reforms with the initiatives to change the
Constitution. We OFWs and families oppose this proposal.
Gloria must first resign and face all the legal consequences
of her actions in the last elections and during her
entire term," Bragas-Regalado said.
"Clearly, Gloria is an anti-OFW, anti-people, corrupt
and fake President. We do not want her to cling on to
power and drive the nation into the ground. She has
no legal or moral basis to govern. If she does not resign,
the Filipino people here and overseas will oust her
from Malacanang," Bragas-Regalado concluded. #
