Prosta-Norm is a unique combination of herbal and nutritional supplements aimed at supporting optimal prostate health and urine flow.* The herbal ingredients are high quality, standardized extracts in the amounts shown to be highly beneficial in scientific studies.

The most commonly recommended botanical extract for prostate health in Europe is a liposterolic extract of saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) berries, high in fatty acids (80-95%) and sterols. Saw palmetto extract promotes prostate health by inhibiting 5a-reductase and the binding of dihydrotestosterone to prostate cells.* It has also been shown to be an aromatase inhibitor and to reduce the activity of estrogen receptors in the prostate.*

Over the last two decades, numerous studies in Europe have demonstrated the benefits of the liposterolic extract of saw palmetto for the long-term support of prostate health and normal urinary function.*

Another popular botanical extract in Europe for promotion of prostate health is a mixture of phytosterols commonly referred to as b-sitosterol. Often extracted from African star grass (Hypoxis rooperi), the phytosterol mixture also contains campesterol, stigmasterol, and other sterols with their glucosides. Phytosterols are commonly believed to promote prostate health by reducing the formation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins (i.e. PGE2, PGF2a).*

A recent placebo-controlled study with over 200 patients showed the benefits of b-sitosterol on prostate function.

Nettle root (Urtica dioica) extract contains a complex mixture of compounds including polysaccharides, sterols, and lectins. Nettle root extracts have been shown to inhibit the action of sex-hormone-binding globulin.* This globulin is associated with transport of free androgen and estrogen. Nettle root also inhibits aromatase.*

In Europe, it is often combined with saw palmetto extract for support of normal prostate function.*

Other ingredients in Prosta-Norm included to promote optimal prostate health are lycopene, zinc, and selenium.

Lycopene is a naturally-occurring carotenoid found in high concentrations in tomatoes. Lycopene is one of the most potent quenchers of single oxygen and has been shown in epidemiological studies to have a protective effect on the prostate.* Lycopene concentrates in the prostate; the higher the intake, the greater the protection. The ideal amount of lycopene intake remains unknown, but the 7 mcg in Prosta-Norm is among the highest offered in a dietary supplement for prostate health.

Zinc and selenium are important nutrients for optimal prostate health and are commonly recommended for men over the age of 50.* Zinc concentrates in the prostate and is believed to provide a defense mechanism against harmful influences.* High amounts of zinc are typically balanced by small amounts of copper to insure proper iron metabolism.

Selenium, along with vitamin E, is an important cofactor in the production of glutathione-a powerful endogenous antioxidant that prevents free radical damage to many body systems including the prostate gland.*

Recommended use
Take one soft gel capsule twice daily with meals. Prosta-Norm is designed to provide benifits in six to eight weeks. Once results are noted, Prosta-Norm is recommended for long-term use as part of a daily supplement regime.

Contraindications, adverse reactions or interactions
Side effects due to any of the ingredients in Prosta-Norm are rare. Mild gastrointestinal disturbance has been reported with saw palmetto on rare occasions. There are no known contraindications to the long term use of the ingredients in Prosta-Norm and no known interactions of any of its ingredients with commonly prescribed medications.
