SNL' makes writing history

The Hollywood Reporter

(Published August 14, 1999) NEW YORK - NBC's "Saturday Night Live" will have the first female head writer in its 25-year history when Tina Fey takes the role next season.

Fey and writer-producer Tim Herlihy ("The Wedding Singer") will both have the title, which is actually listed in the credits as writing supervisor, in the 1999-2000 season. Fey joined "SNL" two seasons ago from Chicago Second City, where she was a writer-performer.

Among her best-known work on "SNL" last season was the popular spoof of ABC daytime talk show "The View" and the show featuring former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
