MiG Hound - A Brief History: Born & raised in the Alta Vista area of Ottawa, Feb. 14th, 1969.  Instantly became addicted to Star Trek at the age of four.  Science Fiction became the driving force of my imagination.  I was quite possibly the youngest Space Cadet in history.  My biggest fascination with Trek was aimed at the technical side, rather than the philisophical point.  Drawing  Starship designs was one of my hobbies.  Other hobbies include plastic model construction... Planes, Gundam, Starships.  We will not discuss my Public School years.

Life really began when I hit Canterbury High School.  Took up Electronic Music through inspirations like, Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream.  There are a number of other ambient, post minimalist, instrumentalists I like to listen to, aswell.  It all started back when my brother use to play his old Emerson Lake & Palmer records.  One album, Brain Salad Surgery, the band made extensive use of Synthesizers.  I was fascinated by the range of bizarre sounds one could produce with this equipment.  So, naturally, I got involved with Canterbury's Music Programme, when they got serious & tore out the Auto-shop & replaced it with a demi-World Class Recording Studio, including a small synthesizer rig set up near the music department.

Also had a vast fascination with Modern Fighter Aircraft... F/A-22A, F-15E, Tornado, SU-32, etc.  I come by this fascination honestly, because I was told that my Great Grandfather, on my mother's side, Charles Ross Kirkpatrick was responsible for the construction of the first Laminated Propeller for the Wright Flier.  They had problems with the design they had, because it would shatter at such high revolutions.  Charlie's design solved that problem for the Wright Brothers.  Anyway, a great spot to catch images of some of these awesome aircraft is in the United States Air Force Home Page.

My greatest addiction also has to do with Fighter Aircraft.  Since the advent of the IBM Home PC, software companies have been releasing Combat Flight Simulators.  I tend not to call these software 'games', because they are in fact simulations in which you fly the craft in a 3D rendered cockpit with fully functional displays and controls.  These programs teach you the basic concept of flight & control of an impressively detatiled array of very sophisicated avionics through simple point & click capability.    Jane's Information Group signed up with Electronic Arts to create a series of great Simulators. Some were specifically dedicated to certain aircraft, such as, Jane's F-15, F/A-18, & AH-64D Longbow.  Other titles modeled a variety of different planes.  United States Air Force, Israeli Air Force, Fighters Anthology to name some.  A couple never got published, such as Jane's A-10.  The creme de la creme of Flight Sim creators was Digital Image Design, producers of the EF-2000 series & F-22 Total Air War.

The next addiction to add to the list would be Anime.  Back in '90-'91 I was introduced to a fellow who was well versed in most popular Science Fiction as well as the more obscure titles of the genre.  However his collection of Anime was just as impressive.  This was back when Anime primarily had an underground following in North America & wasn't quite mainstream, yet.  Of the titles that I was introduced to, the most entertaining were, Mobile Suit Gundam, Macross, Patlabor, Urusei Yatsura, Dirty Pair, & tonnes of others.  The Star Wolf also showed me how beautiful Japan is in reality.  I ended up taking conversational Japanese & studied their culture, for two years.  The result was I could enjoy the anime in it's originality & not the shitty american dubbed versions.

Finally, & most recently I've been made aware of a 3D rendering program called Poser.  It allows you to view in realtime three dimensional characters, pose them, clothe them & create 3D enviroments surrounding them.  These 3D renders can then be animated, or just saved as J-pegs.  I have also found that you can render more than just people, but objects aswell, such as vehicles... Cars, Planes... Starships.  Renderosity is a great resource site for enthusiasts of this activity.  Here is a sample of my work.  Enjoy
