| The 'Graves' Connection Jane Graves FURNISS married George Henry MULLINS, 17 March 1875 @ Sheffield Parish Church. She gives no details of her father. Born ~ 1853, Jane is assumed to be the 'daughter' of Robert & Harriet Graves (nee Furniss). Robert & Harriet Graves married in June 1854, therefore Jane is assumed to be born out of wedlock, whether Robert Graves is her father is yet to be discovered. On the 1861 census, Robert (32 yrs), a file smith, & Harriet Graves (28 yrs) lived at 105 Bernard Street, Sheffield. They have one child, Joseph, aged 4. All three born in Sheffield. No mention of Jane. In October 1876, George Henry MULLINS is born, his birth certificate gives George MULLINS (collier) and Jane Graves MULLINS (formerly FURNISS) as his mother. Their address is 16 Oil Mill Fold, Rotherham. This property was rented by George MULLINS from Joseph Hannah, they still lived at the property in July 1877 but they had left by May 1878. Jane MULLINS died in April 1879 of Pthisis, her husband George MULLINS was present at the death, their address: 98 Park Hill Lane, Sheffield Park. This is the address where Jane's parents(?) lived in 1881, the census shows Robert (51 yrs) & Harriet (47 yrs) Graves, Robert Graves (15 yrs) son, and George Hy Graves (4) Gdson (this is my gg-gfather but why have they changed his surname from Mullins to Graves?). Joseph Graves must have left home by now, aged 24. Jane MULLINS was buried at St. John's church, Sheffield Park in April 1879. 1891 census - 98 Park Hill Lane shows Robert Graves (61) Labourer, Harriet Graves (58), George Harry Mullins (renamed!!) (14) grandson, rolling mill hand, and Robert Maben (42) lodger. What happened to his father George MULLINS after his wife's death in April 1879? The Graves family continued to live at 98 Park Hill Lane, head of family is Robert Graves until 1892/3, in 1894 Harriet Graves is head of family. George Henry MULLINS (grandson of the Robert & Harriet Graves) married in December 1902, to Beatrice Alice Norton, he gave his address as 98 Park Hill Lane. Their first child, Harriet (perhaps named after her grandmother) was born Dec. qtr 1903. Harriet Graves' last mention on record is at 98 Park Hill Lane in 1905. In April 1906, George Henry & Beatrice's 2nd child was born (George Henry MULLINS, my grandfather) but they had left 98 Park Hill Lane by this time. In 1912/13, William Graves (Robert & Harriet's 2nd son?) appears at this address (98 Park Hill Lane) from 17 Staniforth Road, Sheffield. However, in 1925, the MULLINS family are back again! Harriet (eldest daughter of George & Beatrice Mullins) marries in September 1925 - she gives her address as 98 Park Hill Lane, she marries Martin MAHON of 94 Park Hill Lane, they have a daughter Theresa (Rita) in January 1926.
