| William Thomas *Tom* Samms along with his 2 brothers ,Chat and George worked in Buchan's mine. He worked from 1928 till the mine closed in 1963. The mine opened in 1926. He then bought the farm in Howley,Nfld.. At first he lived in Buchaan's and met his wife, Lillian Rowsell and got married in Buchan's. . Tom never returned to Codroy,except to visit. He was 23 when started to work in the mine. Chat was 17 and George was 20. They all worked above ground. |
