| Joseph Musseau (etc) b.Dec.26,1778 in Quebec d.July 6,1873 in Mouse Island,Nfld. There are a couple of stories floating around concerning his arrival in Nfld. One story suggests that he was shipwrecked off Anticosti Island,Quebec and went aground on the southwest coast of Nfld close to Channel. He jumped ship and stayed in Nfld after meeting his wife Hannah. They were married in 1822. He was 44 years old at the time ans she was 21. Their first child was born in 1923 and the last one in 1946. He would have been 68 then. Thinking about the age when he married Hannah, is ir possible for him to have deserted a wife and family in Quebec before he arrived in Nfld.????? Hannah is reported to be from England. Another story suggests that he came over from Labrador by dogsled. I believe the first one. He also saved some lives from a ship wreck on the southwest coast with the help of a Nfld dog. Rev.Wix journal says this. Anyone with anything to add, I would like to hear from them. |
