"Bye, Karen. I'll miss you." Lewis softly said to his wife from the porch as he kissed his five-year-old son, Jamie. "Now Jamie, take care now. When you grow up, be good, OK."
"Yes, dad. Where are you going?" Asked his son innocently.
"Daddy's just gonna be gone for a while," he said. But even he didn't know where he was headed.
Lately, all Lewis did was say goodbye to his family and loved ones. He doesn't know why he's doing this. But, he was feeling the sort of freedom that he never quite felt before.
As he drove out of Palm Springs, he scratched his shiny, bald head and again began to get flashbacks of his life with his family when he was young. Life's great. I love everyone, he thought to himself. Just then there, was a thick shudder in his heart. He felt as though something choked tt. He never had this sensation before. It's not surprising though, he thought. After fifty years of a good heart, this should happen now.
He realized that he had a seizure. Although it was not serious, he worried. Now, he was alone.
Why did I have to go? He was driving across a beautiful cliff. The view is so relaxing. He felt as though he was flying across the clouds. And there it went again.
"Ohhh.", Lewis moaned in pain.
There it goes again, he thought.
Every time he reminisced his life, the pain in his heart maximized. Karen's right, I should probably see a doctor, he regretingly said to himself. His wife redundantly reminded him of seeing the doctor for his checkups. After his recent surgery, he never again went to the doctor.
She's right, he thought. After this meeting, I should probably see Dr. Johnson. At the thouht of these words in his mind, he remembered that he didn't have a meeting. In fact, he's on vacation. But where was I going? The moment I woke up this morning, I knew that I had to go somewhere.
Just as he was figuring out the answers, he saw a black 1979 Mustang, much like his own car, pass by going in the opposite direction. The strange thing was that the person behind the wheel of the car looked a lot like him, and wearing the same shirt he had on.
Lewis didn't mind. He drove along. But he couldn't restrain himself from looking once more, as if it was calling for him.
The man driving the Mustang appeared to be clenching his fists toward his heart, and obviously, he was in pain. All of a sudden, the man knocked his head on the steering wheel.
SHRIEEEK!!!
The car swerved left and right, and it fell from the cliff, catching huge boulders with it. There was a long sound of rocks falling like thunder and then finally, the sound of the car smashing into pieces.
Lewis stopped the car to have a look at the wreckage. But he took a look at his watch and noticed it was about 2:18pm.
"Damn," he said to himself. "I have to go."
So he started his engine and drove off. He raced against the wind, doing ninety.
The car watch was beeping, but he didn't set it. He took a look at it and according to the watch, it was 2:18pm. Just the same moment, he felt his heart being crushed so hard that he had to clench his fists in pain.
"Oooh." He groaned.
He could no longer control his driving. He knocked his head on the steering wheel and in an instant, he found his Mustang swerving left and right and off the cliff.
As his car had dove down onto the rugged edges of the high cliff, he finally had realized something. He was given a chance. An opportunity to say goodbye to his family. So he went back.
And it went on forever.
The End
