One of the most frustrating parts of builing your mower is getting the clutch to work right. It can look perfect to you and be extremely loose, yet still move the mower. It just dosent seem to make sense. Well maybe this should help. The problem on the clutch is, when you change pulleys, you change belt speeds. Now that belt that used to be going farely slow around the pulleys, is now cruising around there. This makes it want to spin the pulleys even when its extremely loose. You need to get the belt to release enough on the front, so it will actually stop. Below is a diagram that gives you an idea of where to start. Now keep in mind this is the system i use, it works great for me, but someone else may have have another idea. Just get something that works for you. Just get the mower outside when you first test it. Theres nothing worse than getting on your mower, putting it in gear, and driving over the shop table and smashing your brand new grinder on the floor. (if your wondering why that is so specific, its because i know that from experience. I saw it happen). |
