Parade of the Line Changes
By Porter McGwyer

Don't get too comfortable in the new school year, folks. Things are changing at Midway Prep and they're changing quickly. Administrators from both Midway Prep and the other Midway-based preparatory school, Midway Academy, have been meeting to change up the district lines.

How can you change district lines when you're at a boarding school, you may ask. There are certain employees employed at Midway Prep and Midway Academy that make, maintain, and monitor the district lines. They're called "lineys." Each school is divided up into about ten divisions. Students are randomly placed into each section. After the students are placed into the division, the divisions are mapped out by the lineys to take on the look of a regular school district. So when they need to change the lines, they can do it by looking at the map of the district divisions and make the necessary provisions.

Sound confusing? It's definetly a complicated process, but the lineys are working hard to make district provisions. Because Midway Prep has been overcrowded as of late, they need to move some Midway Prep students to Midway Academy. Midway Academy administrators didn't have to, but they chose to send a few Midway Academy students to Midway Prep to make it a "fair swap."

So now the district administrators has made an official announcement of who's going, who's coming, and who's staying. One thing's for sure. Things are in an uproar.

"I think it's a disgrace, that's what! The administrators are trying to ship us off to some other school that may not have as much as ours without our having any say in it! It's cruel, ludicrous, and injust," Brent Woodman cries in outrage.

Meanwhile, others have differing views. "I believe that our administration has been in the business long enough to know how to handle situations such as this one. Obviously, they have more experience in the field than we do, and I believe that they will make a decision that is in our best interests," Christian Harris explains.

Whether for or against it, everyone who is departing will be missed. We've all been like family for almost nine years. To lose one of our own will be devastating, and only time will tell how we will adjust to the new Midway Academy students. For right now, though, we must try and make the best of the situation at hand. Hopefully all of us have the strength to be mature about it, and will at least attempt to make the new students feel at home here.
