Episode 51: Scene Two

Adrienne's hands couldn't stop trembling. The shaking became so violent that the letter slipped from her hands and onto the floor, but Adrienne was no longer thinking about the piece of paper. All she knew was that she had to call someone.

Barely able to hold the receiver steadily in her hand, Adrienne picked up the phone and dialed a number. Two of her fingers rested on her lips as she contemplated her next move. After she called, what would she then do? How would she be able to help Gia?

"Hello?"

At first, Adrienne couldn't find her voice.

"Is anybody there?"

"Yeah, Mel. It's me, Adrienne," she finally managed to say. Her eyes nervously darted back and forth between the front door and Gia's bedroom. "I think I found our clue."

"Really?" Mel shouted, then lowered his voice. "What is it?"

"I can't tell you over the phone. How about you meet me at Jax's in ten minutes?"

"Jax's is probably closed by now. We'll have to meet somewhere else."

"No, I'll persuade Jax to let us stay after closing time. He knows we won't do anything bad."

"Adrienne, I don't know..."

"Look, Mel," Adrienne broke in, an edge coming in to her voice that hadn't ever been heard in it before, "Do you want to help Gia or not?"

"Of course I want to help her! I just want to be discreet about it, that's all. No one else needs to know that something's up with her. I'll see you at Jax's."

Adrienne let the receiver fall back into its hook. She stared down at the envelope. To tell the truth, she didn't even want to touch it. If what Gia believed was true, then she was going through a lot more than Adrienne could ever imagine.

Adrienne hastily picked up the envelope and shoved it down to the bottom of her purse. She closed her eyes and put her hands over her face for a moment. Then, realizing she shouldn't be thinking of herself, she quickly exited her dorm room and made her way to Jax's.
