The History
Christian was born in a small English village on the shores of Lake Welshire. His parents, Nelson and Sarah, were visiting his mother's family during the winter because his mother's sister, Marsha, was expecting as well. In a rare miracle, both Christian and his beautiful cousin Frieda were born on a stormy winter night. Even from that day, Christian's parents knew he was something special.
After a stay of six weeks, Nelson and Sarah headed back to the states, where their older daughter Mindy, aged 6, was waiting for them. Christian was a healthy baby boy, until one night six months after he was born Christian was overtaken by spasms. The family rushed Christian to the hospital, and they were terrified when the doctors told them that brain damage was a very real possibility. For weeks Christian remained in the hospital, and eventually the weeks turned into months. For three months Christian remained in the children's hospital to be treated. Finally, after many prayers, the doctors told Nelson & Sarah that there son was out of danger. There was little to no brain damage.
For some time before this, before Christian was even born, Nelson and Sarah were having marital problems. When Christian was put in the hospital, they put aside their differences and came together for the sake of their child. They vowed while waiting for Christian's recovery that they'd make their marriage work, but soon after Christian came home things began falling apart. Mindy, as young as she was, did her best to shelter Christian from their parents' bitterness towards one another. As Christian grew older, though, he began to realize that his parents didn't love each other as much as some other kids' parents did.
Christian began attending Midway Prep as soon as he entered Kindergarten. It was convenient, for his parents because they lived in Midway, and for Christian it was an escape from the endless yelling in the Harris home. He often went over to friends' homes to stay away from his home as much as possible. His parents often worried when Christiand didn't come home until nine o'clock at night, but Christian never told them why. In infancy and toddlerhood, he was a very precocious and flamboyant young fellow, but as he grew older, he became quiet and reserved. He spoke little to his parents, only when he had to. Christian's teachers began noticing that Christian was becoming increasingly withdrawn, and despite a countless number of sessions with the school counselor, Christian never opened up.
The two people that Christian ever talked to were his two best friends: Shannon Freemont and Madison Gray. Both sympathized with his plight, and offered him as much support as possible. They even went as far as letting him spend the night sometimes because they knew what it was like over Christian's house. Often school administrators bent the rules a little because they too knew about Christian's situation, but they never said anything.
Christian eventually grew into adolescence, and that was when he decided to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He'd had the leading parts in numerous church and school plays, but Christian decided to take it a step further by joining the Midway Youth Acting Troup. Along with about twenty other kids his age, he performed in three to four major Midway productions a year and attended numerous summer camps across the country. Acting provided another to escape from the horrors of home, but it happened to be one he liked. He raised the eyebrows of people all across Midway and even the entire state. Christian became known as "boy wonder," because he remained so strong in acting despite peer pressure and family pressure. Christian knew that acting was his ticket out of Midway and into his own life, so he took it eagerly.
Christian began getting to the point of despondency. Shannon and Madison knew that something was terribly wrong, so they attempted to get him to see a professional about his problems, but he refused. Christian, instead, bottled his emotions up inside of him and acted in total and complete denial about the entire situation. Shannon and Madison could only do so much, and eventually even they got to the point where they knew it would be pointless to attempt to persuade Christian to get help. After a while, though, Christian began to think that he was going about it all the wrong way. He decided to come up with a new plan of action to save himself from the black pits of dark depression that he'd been floating dangerously close to.
Christian began trying to endure life until high school, when he'd go to New York University and major in theatre. He believed that if he could just stick it out until then, he'd be out of the red and on his own. If only it could've been that easy. Stress at home became more tense than ever. His parents were bickering at all hours of the day and night, and Christian no longer had his older sister to lean on, for she was away at college. It was now Christian's turn to play guide and role model to his younger sister Sandi, who was eight years younger than he was. He was secretly infuriated with his parents for doing what they did in front of Sandi, but he could do nothing to prevent it. It was when his parents began forcing Christian and Sandi to choose sides that Christian drew the line.
And so that's where Christian's story picks up at the beginning of Midway Prep. The stress became so unbearable that he finally snapped and let his parents know exactly what he thought of them and there bickering. Where does that leave the Harris family now? Stay tuned to find out.
The Future
Christian has bright ambitions of becoming an all-star Broadway actor. He's taking the necessary steps it takes to get there: he's in an acting troup, he's in Midway Prep's honor choir, and even takes private singing and acting lessons. Christian's determined to make a better life for himself than his parents did for themselves, and believes that the best way to do that is to do what you do best, and for Christian that is to express himself dramatically. Along with his only surviving best friend, Shannon (Madison died on New Year's Eve 1999), Christian's determined to make it to the top and live a life of happiness and most of all peacefulness. That's all Christian's ever wanted in his life and others: love, peace, and happiness.
